2024 NBA awards, who are the finalists and when will the MVP be announced?
With the Conference semi-finals underway, the NBA has started dishing out annual awards with more to come over the next couple of days. He are the finalists and when the winners will be revealed.
The Timberwolves and the Knicks both lead in their respective Conference semi-finals and the NBA has started announcing the winners of this season’s awards. Victor Wembanyama was named Rookie of the Year on Sunday and Minnesota’s French star, Rudy Gobert was named the Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday. Still to come are the awards for Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player, Sixth Man of the Year, Clutch Player of the Year and Coach of the Year. Voting will see a panel of 100 sports journalists and broadcasters.
The winners will be announced by TNT’s Inside the NBA team Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith. The MVP award will be revealed on Wednesday 8 May.
Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid picked up the Sixth Man of the Year with 45 first place votes and a total of 352. He averaged 13.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game during the regular season.
Nikola Jokic will be in contention for his third MVP - the Nuggest star faces competition from Doncic and Gilgeous-Alexander. The NBA will announce the MVP on Wednesday 8 May at at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Social Justice Champion award is in honor of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. This will be the fourth time it has been awarded Stephen Curry was last year’s winner and Carmelo Anthony and Reggie Bullock won it before him. The winner will be announced on Thursday 9 May at noon ET..
