Angel Reese continues to re-write the WNBA history books. Back in June, the 22-year-old Chicago Sky broke the single-season record for consecutive double-doubles, set by Los Angeles Sparks legend Candace Parker in 2015.

Another week, another double-double

The Sky crashed to a 68-86 defeat to the Phoenix Mercury at the Footprint Center on Sunday but at least there was some consolation for Reese, who topped her team’s leaderboard, ending with 19 points, 20 rebounds and one assist - yet another double-double on the game log.

In doing so, she became the fastest player to reach 20 double-doubles in one season in WNBA history, reaching the milestone in just 27 games.

Angel Reeses's double-doubles

  • Phoenix Mercury 19pts 10reb
  • Los Angeles Sparks 14pts 11reb
  • Phoenix Mercury 11pts 15reb
  • Las Vegas Aces 13pts 10reb

On the horizon is the record for double-doubles in a single WNBA season, which was set recently. Alyssa Thomas notched 28 double-doubles in 40 regular season games for the Connecticut Sun last year. Reese has another 13 between now and the end of September to pull level or set a new mark.

And much further ahead is the all-time WNBA record - Sylvia Fowles holds the for the most career double-doubles, totaling 193 during 15 seasons from 2008 until her retirement in 2022.

Reese is currently averaging 13.4 points and 12 rebounds for the Sky, who sit eighth in the standings with a record of 11-16. Curiously, next up is Alyssa Thomas’ Connecticut Sun, who occupy second place on 19-7.
