Update:

Anthony Edwards made his return to the court Monday night, but not exactly on time. When the Minnesota Timberwolves tipped off against the Dallas Mavericks, Edwards was nowhere to be found in the starting lineup despite being announced as a starter.

For a brief moment, fans were left wondering what was going on. The answer was surprisingly simple, honest, and frankly, relatable.

“Nature calls”...literally

Head coach Chris Finch initially summed it up in a postgame interview: “Nature calls, I guess.”

Edwards didn’t bother sugarcoating it when asked directly either: “I was taking a s***,” he said.

Well, all righty then.

Despite missing the opening tip, Edwards’ absence didn’t last long. He checked into the game just over a minute after it began and quickly looked like himself again following a recent knee injury.

In limited minutes, Edwards finished with 17 points, 7-of-13 shooting, and multiple highlight plays. Minnesota rolled to a comfortable 124-94 win, making the brief delay little more than a funny footnote.

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time Edwards has had an unusual late start. A similar situation occurred earlier in his career, when he checked into a game seconds after tip-off rather than starting on the floor. Still, this latest explanation is easily the most memorable.
