Basketball’s big guns Giannis and Jokic lead the way in NBA All-Star vote ahead of ‘3-for-1 Day’
The 74th edition of the NBA All-Star Game will be staged mid February at the Chase Centre in San Francisco.
The countdown is on ahead of next month’s annual All-Star weekend with the 74th All-Star game itself the pinnacle event in a number of days celebrating the best of basketball which features some of the biggest names from the NBA.
Today (2 January), the league announced how the first phase of the public fan vote is going as Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo lead the Western and Eastern Conferences, respectively.
Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (West guard) and the Charlotte Hornets' LaMelo Ball (East guard) have also polled heavily in the votes with Antetokounmpo securing the highest number of fan votes with 1.7 million and Jokic ranks second with 1.4 million. NBA legend LeBron James ranks third in the West with 1.1 million votes.
How All-Star voting works
The voting process to determine which players will head to San Francisco next month see fans contributing to 50% of the overall vote with the other 25%‘s being shared between current players and members of the media.
Fans do have a chance to make an added difference tomorrow with 3 January being a “3-for-1 Day,” when each fan vote counts as three.
