Boston Celtics 94 vs 104 Golden State Warriors summary: stats, and highlights | NBA Finals Game 5
The Golden State Warriors are a win away from lifting the Larry O’Brien trophy after beating the Boston Celtics on Monday night. Andrew Wiggins was sensational, scoring 26 points to lead the Warriors to a 104-94 Game 5 win.
Boston lose back-to-back for first time since January
After taking Game 4 on the road, Golden State returned home with a golden opportunity to take the series lead at the Chase Center, but they would have to do it against a team that had not lost back-to-back games since January.
If that didn’t seem tough enough, they would have to do it essentially with out Steph Curry who came into the game averaging 34.3 ppg in this series. He was held to just 16 points on 7-22 shooting, but Wiggins would step up on Curry’s cold night.
The Warriors jumped out of the gate quickly, by being the more physical team. Wiggins set the tone, and Drayond Green started his night off the right way after struggling over the last two games. On the shoulders of Wiggins and Green the Warriors built up a double digit lead in the first quarter.
GS defense lock up Celtics in first half
The Celtics had a tough time finding easy shots against the tenacious Warriors defense, and Boston would start the game 4-15 from the field.

Third quarter charge from Boston
The Celtics came roaring back to start the third quarter with a 10-0 run to cut the lead down to just a basket. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown woke up out of the half time break and led the comeback charge from a one-time 16 point deficit. Al Horford gave Boston their first lead of the game mid way through the third quarter, but despite their efforts to claw the lead from Golden State Jordan Poole drained a half court buzzer beater to end the third quarter giving the Warriors a one point lead.
The shot seemed to spur the Warriors to start the second half as they locked the Celtics down on the defensive end. Boston scored just 5 points in the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter, as once again the defense took over.
With Curry having an off night, it would be Wiggins and Poole who carried the Warriors in the final 12 minutes. Wiggins had 10 of his 26 in the fourth stretching the lead out to 16 again.

Tonight's Odds
According to Bet365.com the Golden State Warriors are 4 point favorites at home with the Over/Under at 211. As we have seen in this series, home court doesn’t mean a whole lot, and I don’t think I will matter tonight. I think Boston come out with that same sort of physicality we saw in Game 3, and Jayson Tatum finally has that game he has been seeking, and we have been expecting. Boston wins out right tonight in San Fran.
For a second straight game, Steve Kerr is going with Otto Porter Jr. instead of Kevon Looney. This is a small five to start the game, but in Game 4 this line up got them off to a good start on the battle of the boards.
Ime Udoka's starting five has been the same all series long, so why change now? Will it be Tatum or Brown having a historic night? Will the Boston role players play a big part? It's all hands on deck for the Celtics tonight in the Bay.
Home vs. away
The Boston Celtics handed Golden State their first home loss of the postseason in Game 1 at Chase Center. Outside of that loss the Warriors are perfect, with ten wins under their belt under their home roof. The Celtics have been fantastic on the road, going 8-3 away from Boston
Steph’s Finals stats
Steph Curry is having an incredible NBA Finals run. If he continues on this pace and the Warriors end up winning the title he will no doubt finally be named Finals MVP. He is averaging 34.25 points per game and shooting 47-94 from the field, is at almost 50% shooting from 3 pt. range
Game 5 of a 2-2 Finals
There have been 30 previous NBA Finals that have been tied at 2-2 after four games. In those 30 Finals, the winner of Game 5 has gone on to win the title 22 times. That’s an outrageous percentage of 73.3%. Is this game a must win for both teams? Mathematically no, but morally yes.
We can't have the Warriors playing tonight and not check in on Steph Curry warming up. Whatever he's been doing for the last four games is working, and he won't want to change his routine up too much tonight.
Can Celtics rebound again?
The Celtics have bounced back from every loss they have suffered in this post season. They are a perfect 7-0 after losses in the playoffs, and have not lost back-to-back games since January. They will need to keep that streak alive tonight if they want to get with a game of hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
Tatum trying to catch up
While Curry is currently receiving all of the accolades, there have been a lot of questions surrounding Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics. The first team All-NBA selection has been contained in the first four games of the Finals and knows the Celtics need him if they are going to win it all. "I just got to be better," said Tatum. "I know I can be better, so it's not like I, myself or my team is asking me to do something I'm not capable of. They know the level and I know the level that I can play at. It's not too much pressure at all. It's kind of like my job."
Curry still stunning teammates
Steph Curry didn’t just dazzle those watching from TD Garden and around the World in Game 4, he also impressed his own teammates who apparently don’t get used to those kinds of night from the Splash Brother. "The heart on that man is incredible," said teammate Klay Thompson. "The things he does we kind of take for granted from time to time, but to go out there and put us on his back, I mean, we got to help him out (in Game 5)."
Steph Curry knows what Game 5's in the Finals are all about. Will he take over tonight' like he did in Game 4 back in Boston?
It's sunny in San Fran and the casual drip is on display for the Celtics, but they mean buisness on the road tonight from the Chase Center.
Game 4 recap
Steph Curry had a vintage performance to drive the Warriors to victory in Game 4, scoring 43 points on 14-26 shooting. Friday’s game was the tightest of the series, with neither team leading by more than 7 points until the final minutes of the game. Boston lead going into the fourth quarter, but a 17-3 run in the final 5:30 minutes of the game saw the Warriors steal a game in Boston and get home court advantage back.
We are live from San Fran
Hello everyone and welcome to the Chase Center, for an all important fifth game in the NBA Finals. The Celtics won the opener at TD Garden as Boston hosted a first Finals game in more than a decade, but the Warriors responded in Game 4. It looked like Golden State was no match for the Boston’s defense and physicality in the Celtics Game 3 win, but some tremendous shooting and a fantastic all around performance from Steph Curry evened up the series before sending the series west all square at two games a piece.
