Big week coming up for the Knickerbockers
The Knicks may be on a five game win streak, but they have a huge week coming up. They play the Celtics twice this week, and the Nets, and Heat in between. Those are some massive match ups agianst future playoff teams.
C's starting five
With no Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum needs to have a double dose of scoring. Role players like Derrick White and Marcus Smart will be looking to shine in the Garden without their second leading scorer.
Burnson in the Big Apple
Jaylen Brunson came to the Big Apple in the offseason and has made an immediate impact in New York. He is averaging 23.7 points and 6.2 assists, but even more than his stats it’s the balance he has given this Knicks team. Julius Randle and RJ Barrett have are both having outstanding seasons, and as long as that chemistry continues to grow as the season goes on.
Tatum aiming for MVP
Jayson Tatum is in the midst of an MVP type season. He could be putting up numbers that would be among the top players in the league, but he doesn’t have to. He has a team around him that eases the burden off of his shoulders. He had 55 points in the All-Star game among the games best players and is averaging 30.4 points, 8.7 rebonds and 4.6 assists. His 30.4 points are good enough for sixth in the league.
Eastern Conference Standings
Looking at the standings you see the Celtics not only at the top of the Eastern Conference, but at the top of the NBA with a 44-17. They have a half game lead over the Bucks who are on a 14 game winning streak. The Knicks are currently in sixth place 9.5 games back of the Celtics at 35-27. They are hanging above the seventh placed Miami Heat who have the first of four Play-In Tournament spots.
Brown out tonight
Jayson Tatum gets all the accolades, but Jaylen Brown may be just as important to this team. Brown led the Celtics in scoring against the Sixers last game. He missed the four games leading up to the All-Star Break, but played on All-Star Sunday and dropped 35 points. Since the Celtics came back from the break, he has scored 30 and 26 in both games, and is averaging 26.5 points, 7 rebounds and 3.2 assists a game this season, but he will miss tonight's game due to personal reasons.
Lights, camera, action
Say what you want about Julius Randle, but the dude is carrying the Knicks this season. He has been expected to be the leader of this New York side since he was drafted out of the University of Kentucky, but had never really lived up to the billing. This year he leads the Knicks in scoring with 25.1 a night and he is one of the league’s leading rebounders with 10.6 a contest. It looks like the addition of Jalen Brunson in NYC has propelled him into the player New Yorkers expected him to be all along.
Knicks on a roll
The Knicks rattled off their fifth straight win in a 22 point blowout of the New Orleans Pelicans over the weekend. It was an onslaught from Strat to finish as New York returned home after a brief road trip and put up 42 points in the first quarter. Julius Randle led all scorers with 28 points while five other Knicks poured in double digits. The lead over New Orleans extended up to 32 in a night where the home team celebrated the Golden Anniversary of their 1973 NBA Title team.
Tatum game winner downs Philly
The C’s needed all 48 minutes to down the Sixers over the weekend, and that was just enough to seal the game for Boston. Jayson Tatum didn’t have a great day from the field, but he did just about everything else including drill a game winning three with 1.3 seconds on the clock. That was almost too much time to give the Sixers and Joel Embiid, who nailed a 3/4 court shot as the buzzer sounded. The Philly crowd went wild, but the big man knew he let it go too later. The Celtics survived Embiid’s 41 point 12 rebound night in a battle at the top of the Eastern Conference with Tatum’s 18, 13 and 6 assists while Jaylen Brown’s team high 26.
