With the prospect of the NBA’s first father-son duo now a reality, there are countless takes on what basketball fans can expect when the 2024-25 regular season tips off. Yet, rather than delve into rhetoric, perhaps a better place to start would be with Bronny James’ college statistics

Before we break down his college career, it’s worth noting that Bronny James’ most recent showing in public went very well. Indeed, at this year’s Draft Combin, the 19-year-old showcased a 40.5 inch jump which was recorded as the third-best vertical jump overall. Further to that, James finished in second place in the 3-point shooting drill with 19-of-25. A solid performance.

Mention should also be made of his performance on Day 2 of the Combine which saw him in full gear during a scrimmage, displaying both his passing skills and his defensive prowess, attributes that are considered by many to be his best at the moment. Of course, the biggest question surrounding James during the Combine was in relation to the cardiac arrest that he suffered last summer while training with USC. It was something that James spoke directly to last month.

“It’s still lingering,” James said. “My parents were a big factor of believing in me and giving me the love and affection that I needed at that time. I still think about everything that could happen but I just love the game so much it just overpowers everything. I was set back but that’s not an excuse. I’ve put in so many years of work and I don’t want anyone to think that because I had this issue that I’m lower than everyone else.” Continuing, James explained that despite the blow, the scenario is actually about his perseverance. “It was a tough time for sure but all this work I’ve put in, it’s just really built me into someone that will never give up and it paid off because I put the work into that situation and I’m back to where I want to be.” That he is, as he now joins father LeBron on the Los Angeles Lakers roster after being selected by the franchise with the 55th overall pick on Thursday night.

Yet, what is Bronny James bringing to the table i.e., what were his numbers like in his single season with the USC Trojans? To be clear, James featured in 25 games this past season of which he started six. On an average of 4.8 points per game, the 19-year-old’s numbers don’t jump off the page but as you can above, there is a solid base to build on. Now that he’s set to play alongside his father, one has to imagine that process is going to be something to watch.
