With the 2024 NBA Draft almost upon us, there’s no doubt as to who one of the biggest names on the slate is. The Trojans guard is undoubtedly walking in his father’s shadow, but having overcome a terrifying health scare last year summer, there’s no doubt that he’s his own man.

Bronny James is working with the Suns & Lakers

The 2024 NBA Draft is set to tip off on Wednesday, June 26th, which means we’re just a week away. When it does, there will be the usual attention paid to the top picks which include the likes of Spanish sensation Zaccharie Risacher and the French big man, Alexandre Sarr. Indeed, it’s European-based players that have caught the eye this year. Yet, there’s another name that will be grabbing attention and that’s Bronny James, son of Lakers star LeBron James.

While James is projected to go somewhat further down the list - the second round to be precise - it hasn’t deterred interest in his game. There is unfortunately a stumbling block. According to reports, James has so far had workouts with his father’s team, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns, however, that is not due to a lack of interest on the part of other teams. It is understood that other teams have had difficulty securing time with the 19-year-old. As per reports, the stumbling block lies in the stance taken by his agent, Rich Paul, who has indicated that his preference is that his client not agree to a two-way contract, one which would see James be available to both an NBA and G League roster.

“NBA teams that I talk to say they cannot get Bronny James into their building,” ESPN NBA Today’s report stated. “The sense among teams is that his agent, Rich Paul, does not want him on a two-way contract, and the range he’s going to be picked—the No. 40 to 58 range—that’s where two-way contracts are handed out. So it’s looking right now like Bronny is going to slide to No. 55 [to the Lakers].” At this point, what we know is that James is scheduled to have a second workout with the Suns, while the Lakers have maintained their interest. On the other hand, with LeBron possibly hitting free agency this summer, there are all kinds of possibilities. Keep an eye on this one.
