Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark has explained her reasons for endorsing Taylor Swift’s US election post.
Basketball star Caitlin Clark is encouraging Americans to register vote ahead of this year’s US presidential election, having ‘liked’ a Taylor Swift social-media post in which the pop icon made a similar plea.
In an Instagram message earlier this week, in which the singer-songwriter pointed users towards information on how to sign up, Swift urged her more than 280 million followers: “Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered!”
The musician also used the post to publicly endorse the Democratic candidate, vice-president Kamala Harris - and Clark’s response to Swift’s message suggested the WNBA rookie may be planning to cast her vote in the same direction.

However, when asked on Wednesday about her reasons for the Instagram ‘like’, Clark did not elaborate on her political leanings, instead focusing her attention on Swift’s registration clarion call.
“I think for myself it’s, I have this amazing platform, so the biggest thing would be just to encourage people to register to vote,” Clark told reporters. “I think for myself, it’s the second time I can vote in an election, I’m aged 22 and I voted when I was 18, so I think: do that. That’s the biggest thing I can do with the platform that I have, the same thing Taylor did.”
Clark also voiced her agreement with Swift’s call for voters to “do your research” before casting their ballot in November’s election, which sees Harris go up against the Republican former president Donald Trump.
“Continue to educate yourself with the candidates we have and the policies that they’re supporting,” Clark urged Americans. “I think that’s the biggest thing you can do and that’s what I would recommend to every single person that has the opportunity in our country.”

Clark, who was selected by the Indiana Fever as the No. 1 pick in April’s 2024 WNBA Draft, has around three million followers on Instagram, as well as some 500,000 on X.
In her first season in the WNBA, the former Iowa Hawkeyes point guard has averaged 19.1 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds, playing a key role in the Fever’s qualification for the playoffs - the franchise’s first appearance in the postseason since 2016.
