WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM MIAMI!!!
Western Conference Standings
Taking a look at the standings in the Eastern Conference, we see the Boston Celtics at the top of the table with a record of 34-10. That puts them three games ahead of the second placed Bucks in the conference and three games ahead of the Timberwolves in the West for the best record in the league. We are just over the halfway point in the season, but it’s never too early to start looking at the playoff picture. The Heat come into tonight in 6th place in the East, 10 games back from the Celtics. While they will want to avoid the Play-In Tournament, and have their sights set on home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, they have proved they are capable of making a deep run in the playoffs with the 8 seed.
Butler needs to be Himmy tonight
All we heard about last year during the Heat’s run to the NBA Finals was Playoff Jimmy. Jimmy Butler was damn near unstoppable in the postseason, but Butler is the third leading scorer on the Heat this season and has only led his team in scoring once in the last 18 games. The Heat are led by Tyler Herro who is getting 21.9 points a game, while Bam Adebayo is posting 21.4 and Butler is averaging 20.9 ppg. It’s no secret that the Heat are a better team when Jimmy is as unstoppable as he was during the playoffs, but having Herro and Adebayo contribute with 20+ performances takes some of the the burden off Jimmy.
Tatum an All-Star
There is no question. Jayson Tatum is one of the best players in the league, but they may not be enough to get him in the MVP conversation. He is averaging 27 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists this season and he is on the league’s best team but when you look at guys like Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic and Giannis and their stats, Tatum doesn’t quit match up to the favorites to take the award. It’s true that Tatum doesn’t need to be the guy every night like Embiid, Joker and Giannis. He has the best starting five in the league, and has teammates that can step and win games if he’s having an off night.
Heat's last game
Miami dipped into trade pool this week, bringing Terry Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets, but that wasn’t enough to bring their losing streak to an end. The Heat welcomed a banged up Memphis team, and a bunch of unknowns went into Kaseya Center and stunned the defending Eastern Conference champions. Vince Williams Jr. scored a career high 25 points and GG Jackson had 17 bench points while Miaimi had no one over 20 points. Miami cut the lead to two in the final two minutes but the Grizzlies went on a 7-0 run to end the fourth quarter and sink the Heat to a fourth straight defeat.
Celtics last game
The Celtics had back to back games in Texas, playing the Rockets and the Mavs in consecutive days. The C’s got off to a slow start, but got stronger as the game went on which is a stark difference of their previous second end of a back to back series in which they got blown out by 33 in Milwaukee. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown both went for 30+, with Tatum leading the way dropping 39 points and snagging 11 rebounds to hold off the Mavs and Luka Doncic who posted a 30 point triple double.
We are live from the M-I-A
Hello everyone and welcome to Dade County where the Heat have lost four straight games, and are sliding down the Eastern Conference table. Miami made a midseason trade to bring in Terry Rozier, but that wasn’t enough to top the undermanned Grizzlies last game and now they will have to beat the Celtics to bring their win streak to an end. Boston come into tonight with the best record in the league having won five of their last six after doing the Texas Two Step over the Rocket and the Mavs.
