Celtics’ Jaylen Brown to play despite hamstring concerns

With some days to rest, the Celtics will be hoping that their star shooting guard can fully recover in time for their date with the Bucks.

Having swept the Nets the Celtics had cause to celebrate, but at the same time were forced to sweat on the status of one of their stars.

Celtics’ Jaylen Brown should be ready for the Bucks

According to Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka, star shooting guard Jaylen Brown had to deal with right hamstring tightness in the latter stages of their Game 4 win over the Nets on Monday. Speaking on Thursday, Udoka explained that Brown is “just going to manage it with the strength team,” as the team prepares for the second round of the playoffs. The Celtics coach added that Brown “had it looked at” on Wednesday and since then has “been getting worked on.” While there were concerns about the tightness ahead of Sunday’s series opener against the Milwaukee Bucks, it would seem the green light is still on. “We could say it could impact him,” Udoka said. “We’re waiting to see how he reacts to certain things this week. But expectation would be yes to play.”

Jaylen Brown gives his own opinion on hamstring

Speaking post game at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Brown was actually quite positive though cautious. “I had some hamstring problems going in the second half.” When questioned about how serious the problem might be, the star shooting guard was upbeat in his response. “I’m all right. I think I’m all right. So I’m going to go get it checked out and I think I’ll be fine for the next one,” he said. Later Brown was again asked how the hamstring was feeling to which he responded, “Yeah, it’s all right.”

The Celtics give an update on Jaylen Brown’s status

According to comments made by Celtics president Brad Stevens on Thursday morning, there is “some concern” about Brown’s hamstring. “He was definitely tight, even the next day,” Stevens said. “And so we’re going to tread lightly this week, as we have a couple of days off, and then see how he’s doing. But I think it’s certainly something that we’re going to be all over. And hamstrings are nothing to play around with.”

It should be said that this is not the first time that Brown has had issues with his hamstring. Back in November he was forced to sit out two weeks, missing five games with a right hamstring strain and then again in December, when he was sidelined for five more. Eventually, when he did in fact return to the team, he explained that he “came back maybe a little too early before,” before going on to say that “hamstrings are a little bit tricky, so we were just taking time to figure it out.” Whatever the case it goes without saying that as a player who averaged 22.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.5 across the series with the Nets, Boston will definitely be needing him when they take on Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks in the next round.
