Chance Comanche, charged with murder and expelled from the NBA development league

Center Chance Comanche was arrested with his girlfriend for the murder of a young woman, of which both have been accused in the state of Nevada.

Chance Comanche, who was an NBA player until this past Sunday (his contract was terminated on December 15, but he remained on waivers for 48 hours, as is standard), has been accused of kidnapping and murder by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. As soon as the accusation became known, the Stockton Kings, the Sacramento team’s affiliate in the G-League, immediately fired him. The Kings did not elaborate any further and have gave no reason for releasing the player in a brief official statement, which read: “The Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, announced today they have released Chance Comanche”.

Comanche, 27 years old and from Los Angeles, is being investigated for the murder of Marayna Rodgers. According to the police investigation, Comanche and his girlfriend, Sakari Harnden, 19, executed a plan to murder Rodgers in a desert area of Henderson, a town in the state of Nevada near Las Vegas.

Comanche is currently imprisoned in California awaiting extradition to Nevada.

Rodgers was reported missing on Thursday 7 December. Therefore, following the events, Comanche played two G-League games: against Rip City Remix and against Salt Lake City Stars. The Kings played the day after Comanche’s arrest against the Warriors, the team that features Usman Garuba.

Chance Comanche is a 2.06 meter tall player who plays as a center. He trained at the prestigious Arizona University, before entering the 2017 draft. He was not selected and has remained in the G-League with both Memphis and Cleveland’s affiliates teams, with a stint in the Turkish league with Ankara DSI. He returned the the west coast the following year to begin his second period with the Stockton Kings. He has only played one game in the NBA, on April 9 of this year, playing with the Blazers against the Warriors: posting 7 points and 3 rebounds in 21 minutes. This season he has averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds in 13 games.
