Charles Barkley blasts LA as news on firing Vogel arise
Charles Barkley blasts the Los Angeles Lakers for the way they handled Frank Vogel’s news about getting fired at the end of Sunday’s game against the Denver Nuggets.
After a season in which the Lakers finished 33-49 and missed the NBA Play-In Tournament, Los Angeles communicated with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski to announce that Frank Vogel would be reportedly fired.
Vogel, who has led the team for three seasons, was just informed about the news on Monday, even though Wojnarowki’s report was already out postgame on Sunday. “I haven’t been told s***,” said Vogel when he was asked about the news.
Along with many Vogel supporters, former legendary NBA player and current television analyst, Charles Barkley, isn’t happy about the way the Lakers handled this decision.
After the game on TNT, Barkley called out the Lakers for scapegoating Vogel and Russell Westbrook throughout the season, “They’ve scapegoated Frank, obviously, and Russ all year. But this team, I told you from day one, I said, ‘The only chance this team got a chance to be competitive is Anthony Davis,’ and clearly he’s not doing what he’s supposed to do.”
Vogel, who won a championship with the Lakers in 2020 and led them to the playoffs last year, was obviously the first domino of the team’s offseason this year, and the players were not going to get blamed for the abysmal season. “Frank Vogel is getting screwed,” added Barkley.
Barkley then compared the Lakers to WD40, a multi-Use product that lubricates anything rusty and displaces moisture.
At least Vogel has Barkley on his side as he goes through all this.
