Chris Paul calls time on a glittering career
The 40-year-old has announced that the forthcoming 2025/26 season will be his last before retiring from the game.
Chris Paul will only play one more season in the NBA before finally retiring. The veteran point guard, a free agent after ending his contract with the San Antonio Spurs, announced on Jemele Hill’s Spolitics podcast at the American Black Film Festival that 2025/26 will be his last season as a player: “I have a year at most.
I’ve been in the NBA for more than half of my life, which is a blessing, but you definitely don’t get those years back with your kids, with your family. I miss my grandma, who watches every single game I play, every single one. I don’t get to see her and hug her, along with all my aunts and uncles, as much as I’d like,” Paul said to the cameras.
At 40 years old, and after two decades performing at the highest level in the NBA, the American point guard wants to put an end to his legendary career. He is an 11-time All-Star, nine-time All-Defensive, and is part of the NBA 75th Anniversary team. However, he has never won a ring. He came close to winning it with the Phoenix Suns in the 2021 NBA Finals, when his team went 2-0 up in the series. However, the Milwaukee Bucks, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, came back by winning the next four games and were crowned champions in six games (4-2).
Paul didn’t miss a game last season and averaged 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 7.4 assists in 82 games. Despite his age, he’s still an accomplished shooter and passer. The LA Clippers, Suns and Bucks have the player from North Carolina in their sights for one last last dance. His family lives in Los Angeles, so returning to the California franchise would be the player’s dream destination.
