Curry brings the Warriors to life as Durant passes Chamberlain
January basketball delivers milestones, tight finishes and unexpected storylines as the NBA season enters its most revealing stretch.

A new NBA slate brought ten games across the league as January rolls on and the second phase of a season already rich in storylines comes into focus.
On another night full of drama, Kevin Durant climbed past Wilt Chamberlain to become the seventh-highest scorer in NBA history, Stephen Curry sealed a Warriors win to show he still has plenty left in the tank, Joel Embiid kept piling up minutes and numbers against all expectations, and Santi Aldama impressed even as the Thunder edged Memphis at the buzzer. Elsewhere, victories came for the Pelicans, Clippers, Suns and Blazers – the latter at the expense of the Rockets.

All that and more in the night’s round-up.
Boston Celtics 125 – 117 Toronto Raptors
Orlando Magic 91 – 103 Philadelphia 76ers
Washington Wizards 107 – 128 New Orleans Pelicans
Brooklyn Nets 105 – 121 Los Angeles Clippers
Another tough night for the Nets under Spanish coach Jordi Fernández, who watched his team fall at home to the Clippers. Los Angeles were led by 31 points from James Harden, facing his former franchise, and 26 from Kawhi Leonard, who continues to play at an elite level. Brooklyn sit third from bottom in the East and have won just five of their 20 home games so far.
Memphis Grizzlies 116 – 117 Oklahoma City Thunder
Despite missing Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein, the Thunder erased a 21-point deficit in Memphis. The Grizzlies could not capitalize on 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists from Santi Aldama, who went 6-of-9 from the field in 28 minutes. Jalen Williams led Oklahoma City with a 26-point, 10-assist double-double, with Ajay Mitchell adding 23.
Denver Nuggets 87 – 110 Atlanta Hawks
Phoenix Suns 112 – 107 New York Knicks
Golden State Warriors 137 – 103 Sacramento Kings
Portland Trail Blazers 111 – 105 Houston Rockets
At 37, Kevin Durant added yet another milestone, surpassing Wilt Chamberlain on the all-time scoring list with 30 points in Portland. The two-time NBA champion now has his sights set on Dirk Nowitzki’s 31,560 points, which would move him into sixth place, with LeBron James still leading the all-time rankings. Durant also grabbed 12 rebounds, but it was not enough to prevent defeat in Oregon, where Toumani Camara led the Blazers with 25 points.
