Unlike many other sports around the world, the champions of the top sporting leagues in the U.S.A. are honored with rings as opposed to medals. Loaded with diamonds and often bearing unique representations of the winning team’s logo, they have become iconic.

The Denver Nuggets championship ring left some fans disappointed

While not unique to the NBA - the NHL, MLB, and NFL also grant rings - the fanfare surrounding championship rings has always been closely linked with basketball and is most definitely an American sporting tradition. Where the NBA specifically is concerned, championship rings have changed significantly in their appearance throughout the years since 1983, when their consistent design was left behind. Most recently, we saw the Denver Nuggets clinch their first-ever title and with that, they secured a ring for themselves.

From the talismanic Nikola Jokic to the consistently constant Jamal Murray, the Nuggets were worthy winners and so it was expected that their ring’s design would match the magnitude of their achievement. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case according to many fans. Indeed, many ridiculed the unveiling of the Nuggets ring ahead of the opening of the 2023-24 NBA regular season, which you can plainly see in the comments section below the post.

OK, but who designs the NBA’s championship rings?

To date, L.G. Balfour of Attleboro, Massachusetts, and Jostens of Minneapolis, Minnesota are the two companies that have produced the large majority of championship rings for the four major professional sports leagues in the United States. In recent years, however, Tiffany & Co. and Intergold - a Jostens subsidiary - have competed with Balfour, Baron, and Jostens in the design and manufacturing of championship rings. Where the NBA specifically is concerned, it’s Baron Championship Rings that has been mostly responsible for design since 2016 when they designed the Cleveland Cavaliers’ ring. Indeed, they still hold the record for the heaviest ring ever made, which was granted to the Toronto Raptors in 2019 and weighed in at roughly 165 grams.

How much does the Denver Nuggets ring cost?

While no precise figure has been given, what we do know is that the Denver Nuggets’ rings are valued somewhere between $50,000 and $150,000. Of course, if you’d like to grab yourself a replica of one, you can always head over to Rings for Champs where you can pick one up for approximately $150. If you’re going to support your team, do it right.
