Derrick White agrees to four-year, $125 million extension with Boston Celtics
Derrick White emerged as one of the most important players on the NBA champ Boston Celtics squad, and he will continue to be for the next four years.
The Boston Celtics spent years building a championship contender, and this year that hard work paid off in the form of the franchise’s 18th NBA title. Now that they have a championship squad, they are making sure they hold on to it for a while longer.
White signs on for four more years
Derrick White is the latest Celtic to sign a contract extension with the newly crowned champions. He was a pivotal piece of the championship puzzle for Boston who had the deepest team in the NBA and it showed in the playoffs.
White was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2017 draft, but didn’t become a house hold name until he joined the Boston Celtics three years ago. In his first season with the C’s he went from a role player who joined the team in the middle of the season to a bonafide starter over the next two years.
The Celtics went to the NBA Finals in his first year at TD Garden, almost made it to another Finals series thanks to a heroic buzzer beater to keep Boston season alive in the Eastern Conference Finals last year, and then averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists in this year’s postseason.
The four year contract extension is worth $125.9 million and will keep him in Celtics green until 2029. The deal kicks in at the start of the 2025 season, worth $28.1 million and that will bump up to $34.8 million in the final year of his contract.
