Russell Westbrook, the point guard of the Los Angeles Clippers, made the player option in his contract valid to receive a salary of 4 million dollars in the 2024-25 NBA season, reported Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

In July of last year, the MVP of the 2016-17 season surprised everyone when he accepted a lower salary than expected and signed for two years and $7.86 million with the Clippers because he wanted the team to add more talent to compete for the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

In his first entire season with the team led by Kawhi Leonard, Westbrook was made the team’s first substitute and averaged 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists after playing 22.5 minutes per game, the lowest amount of time in his career. However, he missed three weeks with a fracture in his left hand that required a visit to the operating room.

The Clippers will let Brandon Boston Jr. go

The Clippers’ roster will look different in October compared to last season. Wojnarowski also reported that the Los Angeles team decided not to extend a qualifying offer to guard Brandon Boston Jr.

That means the Kentucky graduate will be an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any other team. The 22-year-old athlete saw action in 22 regular season games and recorded averages of 5.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in 10.8 minutes of play.
