Disaster for the Pistons: Cunningham to miss the whole season
Pistons star Cade Cunningham will undergo surgery for an injury to his left leg and will be out for the entire NBA season.
Pistons point guard Cade Cunningham, the first pick in the 2021 draft, decided on Monday to undergo surgery on his left shin bone and will miss the remainder of the season. As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, Cunningham, 21, had been suffering from discomfort in his left shin for more than a month and will not return before the start of the 2023-2024 pre-season.
The Texan point guard had just averaged 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6 assists this year with the Pistons, but hasn’t played for over a month. His last game dates back to 9 November against the Celtics. Total disaster for the Detroit team (in the midst of a results crisis and bottom team in the Eastern Conference with a 7-22 record), who will be without one of the best players in the 2021 draft, after his brilliant college career at Oklahoma State.
The point guard also won the 2019 Under-19 World Cup with the US team and is one of the leaders in Dwane Casey’s side. The Pistons are bottom of the NBA Eastern Conference with a record of 7-22.
