Doncic: “It makes me look tough”

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is disappointed by the Game 1 loss to the Golden State Warriors, but at least he has a cool scar to show for it, I guess.

The Golden State Warriors were able to hold Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic to just 20 points in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, which they won by a long-shot 112-87. That was just Doncic’s third-lowest scoring in a playoff game. He is happy to take the blame for not doing more for the team.

“They were doing a great job on me, especially in the second half,” said Doncic. “As a leader, I’ve got to be better for the whole group, so that’s on me.”

With Gary Payton II out injured, it was Andrew Wiggins who was all over Doncic. Doncic’s five contested shots were against Wiggins, who held him to 5-of-11 shooting and forced three turnovers.

But how did Doncic end up with that big scratch on his face? That was also Wiggins, who went for the ball in the first quarter but missed, instead scratching Doncic and leaving the Slovenian with a big cut across his face.

Here, you can see how it happened, but what’s funny is that the announcer seems to be saying Wiggins “hasn’t done anything to slow Luka down”. Yeah...yet. Doncic wasn’t fazed by the scratch, and in fact thought it at least gave him a rugged appearance.

“It’s good. It makes me look tough,” he told reporters.
