Doncic joins Chamberlain in NBA records

Mavericks star Luka Doncic joins Wilt Chamberlain and Jack Twyman as the only players in the NBA to score 30+ points in their first 7 games of a season.

Update:

On Wednesday, the Dallas Mavericks beat the Utah Jazz and it was, as usual, Mavs star Luka Doncic who led the team with 33 points. But what’s more impressive is that this was his seventh straight game scoring 30+ points, something that hadn’t been done by any player in the NBA in 60 years.

Doncic had previously matched Michael Jordan’s 1986-87 season of six straight 30+ starts, but Wednesday, he joined Wilt Chamberlain (1959-60, 1962-63) and Jack Twyman (1959-60) as the only players to hit 30+ points in their first seven games of a season.

Doncic had also broken a record in his last game, becoming the first player to top 200 points, 50 rebounds and 50 assists through six games.

It’s Chamberlain who holds the record with 23 straight games of 30+ points (1962-63).

“I always hear Wilt Chamberlain,” said a smiling Doncic after Wednesday’s game. “He’s always there.”

At just 23 years old, Doncic is playing at a high level that is helping to carry a currently struggling Mavericks team.

“I’m just happy to play basketball,” said Doncic. “And when we win games, even better.”

The Mavs will take on a tough Toronto Raptors team at home on Friday as Doncic hopes to continue this streak to eight straight games.
