Doncic’s historic 60-21-10 triple-double amongst several records
Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic recorded 60-21-10 triple-double to take Mavs to overtime win against New York Knicks.
Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic made history on Tuesday night, hitting a franchise-record triple-double of 60 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists to force the game against the New York Knicks into overtime. This comes less than a week after Doncic tied Dirk Nowitzki’s record of most 50-point games in Mavericks history (2). The Mavs rallied to win it 126-121.
Doncic magic
Doncic’s 60-point game was the first in Dallas history and Doncic’s career-high in rebounds. Not only that, but it was also the first 60-20-10 game in NBA history. He eclipsed 76ers Joel Embiid’s previous high of 59 points scored this season. Doncic, Embiid, and Devin Booker are the only players to record multiple 50-point games this season.
The Mavericks had to rally to beat the Knicks. They were down by nine points with 33 seconds left. After some back-and-forth action, Doncic purposely missed a free throw to get the ball loose and take it up on the rebound to hit a jumper and tie the game 115-115 with one second left. The Mavs beat the Knicks 126-121.
This was Doncic’s seventh triple-double of the season. Doncic is now just the seventh player in NBA history and the youngest ever to record a 50-point triple-double at 23 years old, 302 days old (surpassing Wilt Chamberlain’s previous record). He is only the third player to ever do so with 20+ rebounds, joining Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor. He joins James Harden as the only two players in NBA history to record a 60-point triple-double. With this game, he has surpassed Dirk Nowitzki’s franchise record (53) for most points scored in a single game.
