Golden State Warriors: Klay Thompson reacts to impersonator who was banned from Chase Center
Gurley made his way into the Chase Center as Klay Thompson and later posted a photo online of his ban letter and a video of being served with a ban from the arena.
A man who looks like Golden State Warriors’ Klay Thompson made his way onto the Chase Center court Monday ahead of NBA Finals Game 5.
The man in question was Dawson Gurley, a YouTuber from Arizona who has been seen before at Warriors games before, dressed like Thompson.
Thompson reacts
Klay Thompson said he saw the reports that his impersonator was banned from Chase Center.
“Oh man, poor guy,” the Thompson said Wednesday. “Just trying to get some good content.”
“You play stupid games you get rewarded stupid prizes,” he continued.
Gurley posts video of incident
Gurley posted a photo online of his ban letter and a video of being served with a ban from the arena by a person he identified as Chase Center’s vice president of security.
Lifetime ban
“An individual falsely impersonated a Warriors player in a deliberate attempt to access unauthorized areas within Chase Center,” a Warriors spokesperson said in an email. “These actions have resulted in a lifetime ban from both Chase Center and Kaiser Permanente Arena.”
Gurley and his cameraperson entered the Chase Center through the media and player entrance. “Let’s get a dub today, Klay,” the man said.
“We got this,” Gurley responded, turning to the camera in disbelief.
Gurley not only passed all the controls without arousing suspicion and without being asked for any credentials, but he is also accompanied by another person who records all his movements and spends about 10 minutes shooting baskets while looking at the camera and joking. He even ends up taking pictures with some of those present who think he is Klay Thompson.
After some time on the court, a security guard approached Gurley asking whether he had any credentials, before he escorted him out of the arena and through the security checkpoint.
