The Warriors starting five features their Big Three for the third straight game, but they have yet to click since Steph came back. Can they right the ship tonight in Memphis?
Morant out for foreseeable future
Ja Morant isn’t the only one in big trouble. The Grizzlies are too. While Ja might have escaped any legal trouble for whipping a gun out in a Utah club a few days ago the league’s punishment could be heavy. There is talk of Morant being suspended for 50 games, after showing the firearm just hours after reports were published that he pulled a gun on a teenager a few months back. Morant has stepped away from the team for an indefinite amount of time, but the league may have more to say about how long he will be off the court.
Western Conference Standings
Taking a look at the Western Conference standings we see the Denver Nuggets at the top of the table with a record of 46-20. The Grizzlies are tied with the Kings at 38-26, seven games back of the Nugs, but because of tie breakers they sit in third. They are a comfortable distance ahead of the fifth placed Warriors who sit five games back of Memphis at 34-32. That leaves them just a half game above teams who would have to participate in the Play-In tournament if the season ended today. There are just three games that separate the fifth placed Warriors from the 13th placed Jazz.
Golden State slumping with Steph
Steph Curry returned from a leg injury in the Warriors loss to the Lakers over the weekend. Before that, Golden State was playing some of their best basketball of the season, having won five straight, but somehow the reintroduction of Curry has interrupted the flow of the Warriors. There is still time to right the ship, and if anyone knows how to do it, it’s Curry and Golden State.
Memphis back at the Forum
It might be up to Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. leading the Grizz after recent happenings out of the Memphis Grizzlies camp. The return home desperate to stop the losing streak, and they will have to do it without their best play. Bane and Jackson Jr. combing for a total of 38.2 ppg, but they are going to have to be even more productive in the absence of Ja Morant.
Grizzlies last game
Memphis lost their third straight earlier this week, when they went into Los Angeles and got dominated by Anthony Davis and the new look Lakers. The game went back and forth as both teams exchanged the lead throughout the fourth quarters, but Anthony Davis closed the game out late in the fourth quarter on a 30 point, 22 rebound night to move the Lakers up the standings while sounding the alarms in Memphis.
Warriors last game
Defense has been the Warriors Achilles heel all season, and it failed them again last game in Oklahoma City. The Thunder led for nearly all 48 minutes after jumping out to a 40 point first quarter. The Warriors kept it close, but couldn’t stop Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who went for 33 points and Josh Giddey posted a triple double to hand Golden State their second straight loss since Steph Curry’s return.
We are live from FedEx Forum
Hello everyone and welcome to Memphis where the Grizzlies are trying to break out of a late season crisis on the court and off the court. They have lost three straight and their hold on the second spot in the West has slipped as they await news on the punishment that will handed out to their star, and one of the best players in the league, Ja Morant. The Warriors got Steph Curry back from injury at the end of last week after a month on the sidelines, but they have lost both games since his return, and now look to turn things around before heading back to the Bay.
