Close out games aren't supposed to be easy, but when you take into account how well the Celtics are playing and how banged up the Heat were in Game 5 the 34 point blow out isn't a big surprise.
The Celtics will get a much need few days rest, and await the winner of the Cavs-Magic game. The Cavs lead 3-2 with a chance to close out the series in Orlando on Friday night.

The Boston Celtics eased into the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs with a blowout win over the Miami Heat in Game 5 from TD Garden. Derrick White and Jalen Brown went off in the win as the C's exacted their revenge on a Miami Heat that knocked them out of the Conference Finals last year.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM BOSTON!
The Heat have been decimated by injuries this series, and tonight is no differnt. It's going to be up to Bam, Herro, Jovic, Martin and Highsmith tonight in Boston.
The Celtics have the best starting five in the East, but tonight they will be without Kristaps Porzingis. It's Jrue Holiday filling in in the starting five with Tatum, Brown, White and Horford.
Porzoutgis
The Boston Celtics made a huge splash this offseason, picking up Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. After crashing out of the Conference Finals last year to this very same Heat team, the front office knew that team wasn’t going to cut it so they brought some size and grit to the team. Porzingis and Holiday helped lead the C’s to the top record in the league through the regular season, and they look like the lock to reach the finals in the East, but that all gets thrown into question if Porzingis’ injury turns out to be worse than it appears. The Latvian was hurt in the second half of Game 4 and diagnosed with a calf strain. Our David Nelson has more.
Jaquez adds to Heat injury list
The hits keep coming for the Miami Heat, and not in a good way. With Rozier and Butler already sidelined, their chances to get a win tonight took another shot when rookie sensation Jaime Jaquez Jr. was ruled out of Game 5. He suffered a hip injury in the second half of last game, and team doctors diagnosed him with a hip flexor strain. Jaquez has started each of the Heat’s four games this postseason and is averaging 12.8 points, 3 rebound and 3 assists a game. The rook is an energy guy who has can score the ball, and has fit in perfectly to coach Spoelstra’s system, but Miami will be without him tonight.
J&J with a chance to close
If the Celtics are going reach the NBA Finals again, it’s going to rest on the shoulders of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. The moves the Celtics front office made in the offseason has put them in position to win the title, but it’s going to come down to their two stars. They may not need Brown and Tatum to be at their best in their first round, but there will come a time where they need to be great. Fortunately for them, the Eastern Conference is full of teams that have come into the playoffs battered and bruised. They are the favorites to reach the finals in the East, and if Brown and Tatum play to the best of their ability, they are almost a shoe in.
Bringing the Bam to Boston
The Miami Heat came in to this series desperately short handed, with Jimmy Butler and Terry Rozier set to miss the first round at the very least. That meant that Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro were going to have to be sensational throughout the series. Bam has had 20 or more in every game and is averaging over 10 rebounds while Herro is getting 17.25 points and 8 assists a game, including a 14 assist game in the only game the Heat won when they broke a playoff franchise record with 23 three pointers in a 111-101 win. If the Heat are going to win another game, they may need to go nuts from the three point line again.
Game 4 recap
The Celtics made sure they went into Miami and took care of business on the road, winning both games from Kaseya Center. They showed just how dominant that could be in both games, jumping out to big first half leads and coasting to the finish line. Derrick White exploded with a 38 point performance, hitting 8 of 15 threes to help jump the C’s out to a 17 point first half lead. That would stretch out to a 28 point advantage in the third quarter, as the Celtics closed out a near perfect night. The only bump in the road came in the second quarter when Kristaps Porzingis went to the locker room with what appeared to be a calf strain.
We are live from TD
Hello everyone and welcome to the Garden where the Celtics return home after breezing past the Heat in both games from Miami. Now they have a chance to end the eighth seed’s attempt at a repeat run from the Play-In to the NBA Finals. Miami have had to do it without Jimmy Butler during this postseason, and that has made things considerably harder. Their chances went from slim to almost none after failing to win a game at home and now they need to win three in a row against a team that only lost 18 games all season. Eric Spoelstra and the Heat won’t get overwhelmed worrying about winning three straight. The priority instead is winning one tonight, and then moving on to the next.
Heat vs. Celtics
The top seed in the East has a chance to take one step closer to the NBA Finals tonight from TD Garden. The Boston Celtics have been the best team in the league all season, and can be the first team in the Eastern Conference to advance to the second round if they beat the Miami Heat in Game 5 tonight. AS English will be with you all night providing live coverage, stats, highlights and analysis of this potential close out game.
