If the Golden State Warriors didn’t already have good reason to feel negatively about their 2022-23 campaign, they most definitely do now after seeing their star player suffer an injury.

Warriors sweat on Steph Curry’s shoulder injury after Pacers loss

Wednesday night was not a good night for the Golden State Warriors. Not only did their frustrating run of results continue with a 125-119 loss to the Indiana Pacers, but star guard Steph Curry was forced to leave the court with what appeared to be a shoulder injury. According to Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, Curry will receive an MRI on Thursday.

Regarding how the injury actually occurred, it was late in the third quarter when Curry had just missed a 3-pointer and the subsequent rebound led to a Pacers fastbreak. As Jalen Smith went to the basket, Curry tried to steal the ball away, however, despite making contact with the ball it seems that he actually ended up hurting his shoulder on the play. In the moment immediately after, Curry could be seen grabbing his shoulder and in visible pain. So much so in fact, that the Warriors were then forced to call a timeout to remove him from the game. It was straight to the locker room from there and shortly after he was ruled out of the rest of the game. Sadly, the Warriors talisman was already on 38 points, seven rebounds and seven assists at the time of the injury.

What have the Warriors said about Steph Curry’s injury

As mentioned above, it was Kerr who gave some details on his star’s status when speaking postgame. “He’s gonna get an MRI tomorrow,” Kerr said. “We’ll see how he is tomorrow. I didn’t ask about [his level of pain], I just trust [the medical staff’s] judgement and they said he’s not going back in. I checked in with him briefly, but I haven’t had a chance to go into detail with him. His spirits were good. Steph’s always a guy with a great outlook on life so he was in good spirits. We’ll hope for the best.”

At this point, there has been no official word on the severity of the injury nor how long he may be required to sit out, if at all. With that said, should it come to the worst and the four-time NBA champion is forced to miss any length of time, it will come as a massive blow to the defending champions who aren’t playing like title defenders at the moment. The last time Curry was out was back in 2019, when he played just five games due to a broken hand. The Warriors record of 15-50 during that season was the worst in the league, which is to say they’ll definitely be hoping for some good news following Thursday’s exam.
