After being selected with the 55th overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night, the NBA will have its first-ever father-son duo in the form of the league’s all-time points leader LeBron James, and USC graduate, Bronny James.
A Closer Look at Bronny James
When the NBA Draft Combine took place last month, Bronny James achieved two things. The first was the laying to rest of any doubts about his condition. Do recall that James suffered a cardiac arrest last summer leading many to question whether he even had a future in the game. After being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night, it’s clear that’s not the case. The second was to prove that he’s got the skill set to play in the NBA and isn’t simply a kid with a famous father. That of course brings us to his physical attributes, something we thought we should highlight as we prepare for the 19-year-old entry into the league.
Before we get to that, we should state clearly that there is no comparison to be made between Bronny and his father, LeBron James. As a point guard, the younger James is noticeably smaller than his dad when it comes to height, weight, wingspan, hand size, and shoe size. Indeed, while his father stood at 6-foot-7 during the 2003 combine, Bronny measures 6-foot-1 without shoes. Where his weight is concerned, Bronny came in at 210.4 pounds during the combine, while his wingspan was measured at 6 feet, 7.25 inches.
Then, we’ve got James’ hand size which was reportedly 8.5 inches in length and 9.5 inches in width which sounds adequate enough for a budding ball handler. With that in mind, we’ve got to mention his standing reach which was stated as 8 feet, 2.5 inches during the Draft Combine. Last but not least, we have Bronny’s shoe size which is said to be size 14. If you’re wondering his father wears a size 15. Ultimately, from his vital statistics to his skill set, it would appear that Bronny James has all the tools he needs to play in the NBA. The question that remains is whether having his father as a mentor will help him to build on them.
