How long did it take Buddy Hield to hit his record-setting fastest 3-pointer in the history of the NBA?
2020 NBA Three-Point Contest champion Buddy Hield flashed his competition-winning form in record-setting fashion in Thursday’s Pacers-Cavaliers matchup.
Indiana Pacers shooting guard Buddy Hield won the 2020 NBA Three-Point Contest and in their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday, he very quickly showed the form that won the competition. So quickly, in fact, that he set a new record for the fastest three-pointer ever made.
Hield in a hurry
Hield caught the ball in the three-point area after it was batted by Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen during the opening tipoff. In one fluid motion, he turned around and shot it, and all this happened within a span of three seconds.

Hield was on fire
That shot set the pace for Hield, who went 5-for-6 from behind the arc the whole evening. The Pacers went on to win the game, 135-126, and is now 19-17 overall.
The three seconds it took from the opening tip to the ball going through the basket makes it the fastest three-pointer recorded in the play-by-play era. This breaks the record set by Reggie Miller, another Pacer, back in 2000 when he sank one four seconds into the game against the Golden State Warriors.
