How long will the Suns’ Kevin Durant be out after injuring his ankle?
Though there has been no official word on a timeline for recovery, it’s likely to be lengthy which most definitely affects the Suns’ hope for the season and beyond.
While there is never a good time to suffer a serious injury, one could argue that the Suns’ newest star could certainly have ‘picked’ a better moment. Following his league rocking trade to Phoenix, it now appears that the newest chapter in his career has been brought to a halt before it even got going.
Kevin Durant could miss remainder of season
Having played in only three games for his new team, reports now indicate that Phoenix Suns star, Kevin Durant, may be out for the remainder of this campaign and even the start of the post season. On Wednesday night, Durant was axed from the roster not long before tipoff against the Thunder, after he appeared to tweak his ankle during the pre-game warm up. There is yet to be any official comment on Durant’s status, but there are indeed fears that his layoff may be long term.
What we do know is that Durant is set to undergo an MRI on Thursday, in an effort to determine the severity of his injury. For those who weren’t present on Wednesday night, video appeared to show Durant slip while going for a layup during the warmup. Though the former Nets star would actually end up finishing his workout, the team later decided to keep him out of what finished as a 31-point win against the Thunder. “I feel bad for him because he feels bad,” Suns coach Monty Williams said. “I saw his face and - I’ve been around him so many times - I know what he’s feeling, and I don’t want him feeling that way at all.”
Kevin Durant has suffered injuries recently
If the scenario sounds familiar, that’s probably because it is. It was just earlier this season - when playing with the Nets - that the former MVP suffered an MCL injury in his knee. The end result was that Durant had to sit out some 20 games. Indeed, some of those games came even after his trade to Phoenix. Yet, it’s got to be said that where the three games that he has played are concerned, Durant has been the same as usual i.e., unreal.
Not only have the Suns not lost when he’s played, but he’s averaged almost 27 points per game on 69% shooting. That’s to say, that while it’s true the Suns traded a massive package to bring him to Phoenix, it appears to have been the right choice - despite his injury of course. At any rate, if the Suns are to go one better than they did in 2021 - they lost in the Finals - it’s clear that they will need Durant to do it. With some reports suggesting that his season could be over, that hope may have just been dashed.
