How many German players play in the NBA and what teams are they on?
We take a look at the German players in the NBA, and what teams they play for
The German national men’s basketball team, known as the Deutsche Basketball Nationalmannschaft or “Die Mannschaft,” represents Germany on the international stage. The team operates under the guidance of the German Basketball Federation, commonly referred to as the Deutscher Basketball Bund, which serves as the governing body for basketball in Germany. Currently, Germany holds the 11th position in the global basketball rankings.
Germany’s most notable achievement occurred in 1993 when they secured the gold medal at EuroBasket 1993. They also claimed silver in 2005 and bronze in 2022 in the EuroBasket competition. The German national team has participated in the FIBA World Cup six times and achieved a bronze medal in 2022. Additionally, Germany has made appearances in the Olympics, reaching the quarter-finals in 1984, 1992, and 2020.
On June 12, 2023, Germany announced its 18-player roster for the FIBA World Cup 2023, featuring talented individuals such as Isaac Bonga, Oscar da Silva, Niels Giffey, Maxi Kleber, David Krämer, Leon Kratzer, Maodo Lô, Andreas Obst, Justus Hollatz, Dennis Schröder, Christian Sengfelder, Johannes Thiemann, Daniel Theis, Johannes Voigtmann, Franz Wagner, Moritz Wagner, Nick Weiler-Babb, and Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann.

Who are the German players who play in the NBA?
Five of the aforementioned players also play in the NBA, on their respective teams: Kleber plays with the Dallas Mavericks, Schröder with the Toronto Raptors, Theis with the Indiana Pacers and the Wagner brothers play for the Orlando Magic.
In addition to these players, two more German players play in the NBA: Isaiah Hartenstein and Joshua Obiesie. In total, there are currently seven German players showcasing their talents in the NBA.
