How many spelling errors does the Kobe Bryant statue have?
The Los Angeles Lakers have announced their plans to fix the misspelled names on the statue of the ‘City of Angels’ legend as soon as possible.
It seems incredible that after so much time working on the statue, which was announced in August 2023 to commemorate Kobe Bryant for his 20-year career with the Lakers, there were errors and that they found out about them a month after its inauguration. The fans began to find the spelling mistakes on the statue that was placed outside the Crypto.com Arena.
It is expected to be fixed soon
In 2020, before his tragic death in a helicopter accident, Kobe Bryant selected the design for his own statue. The statue commemorates his remarkable 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors in 2006. However, the names of two players, José Calderón and Von Wafer, were misspelled at the base of the 19-foot image.
‘José Calderson’ was written instead of Calderón, who played with the Raptors. Meanwhile, the former Lakers player Von Wafer was spelled as ‘Vom Wafer’. The Lakers franchise has acknowledged these errors and stated that they will fix them soon, according to a spokesperson who issued a statement on Monday.
He added that they have been aware of this issue for a few weeks now and are already working on correcting it.
Additionally, Lakers fan Holden Mose expressed surprise in an interview with Telemundo 52 over a spelling error in the word ‘decision’, which was mistakenly spelled as ‘decicion’.
