Update:

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game is the 74th edition of the league-wide showpiece, a historic event that dates back to 1951. Incredibly, LeBron James has taken part in more than 28% of all All-Star Games.

This year’s event will be the 21st time that James has suited up alongside the best in the league. He holds the league record for appearances in the game, ahead of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (19) and Kobe Bryant (18).

During more than two decades of appearances, LeBron James has been named the All-Star Game MVP on three occasions. Only Bryant and Bob Pettit have won the award more often, four times apiece. Another win on Sunday would put James level with the all-time record.

After Bryant’s tragic passing in 2020 the league renamed the award ‘NBA All-Star Kobe Bryant Most Valuable Player’ in his honour.

Who is the oldest NBA All-Star?

Now 40, LeBron James is only the third player to be selected for the All-Star Game after his 40th birthday. He joins Dirk Nowitzki and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the exclusive 4-0 club. Abdul-Jabbar holds the record, making his final All-Star appearance at the age of 41.

After 20 previous nods you may think that the novelty has worn off for James. But speaking ahead of this year’s competition he insisted that he remains proud of the achievement.

“Special thanks to my fans that voted me in their portion,” James said. “The coaches, the players who had anything to do with me being a part of it. It’s always special and very humbling and I don’t take it for granted being an All-Star. It’s something that, when I was a kid, I always watched the All-Star Game and had the opportunity to do and I always wanted to be on that floor.”
