How much money does the 2024 WNBA All-Star 3-Point Contest winner get?
With the news that Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu have both opted not to take part, we take a look at what prize money can be won in this year’s contest.
Traditionally held on the weekend before the WNBA All-Star Game, the 3-Point Contest (or Three-Point Shootout as it was previously known) has been one of the highlights of the All-Star Week since the event was introduced in 2006.
Five players take part - this year’s contest will feature Stefanie Dolson (Washington Mystics), Allisha Gray (Atlanta Dream), Jonquel Jones (New York Liberty), Marina Mabrey (Connecticut Sun) and Kayla McBride (Minnesota Lynx).
Each player has 60 seconds to shoot a total of 27 balls from five racks placed around the three-point arc. Each rack contains four standard basketballs, worth one point each plus a fifth ball, known as the “money ball,” which is worth two point. In addition to the standard racks, each player has a “money ball rack” which they can place at any of the five locations. This rack contains five money balls, each worth two points.
Sabrina Ionescu dazzles in Las Vegas
Last year, we saw Sabrina Ionescu ping in shot after shot to finish with an incredible 37 points - setting a new all-time record for WNBA and NBA - missing just three shots with 92.5% efficiency. She broke the previous record of 31 points, first set by Stephen Curry in Atlanta in 2021 then equalled by Tyrese Haliburton last year.
Unfortunately, Sabrina won’t be taking part this year. She declined an invitation, as did Indiana Fever’s superstar rookie Caitlin Clark.

WNBA All-Star 3-Point Contest prize money
According to a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) excerpt shared by WNBA reporter Matt Ellentuck on spcial media, each of the five All-Star 3-Point Contest participants will receive $1,030 each for taking part, with the winner earning $2,575.
There have been seven different winners since the first contest in 2006 - the Chicago Sky’s Allie Quigley being the only multiple winner having won in four different editions.
The 2024 WNBA All-Star 3-Point Contest takes place on Friday 19 July with television coverage by ESPN starting at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m.
