How much money does the WNBA All-Star Game MVP get?
All eyes will be on Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Aliyah Boston at the WNBA All-Star Game in Phoenix tonight. Who will end up as MVP and what cash prize will they win?
The Footprint Center in Phoenix stages tonight’s WNBA All-Star Game which features the cream of the top players from the league, as voted by fans, players, journalists and broadcasters.
Spotlight on Clark and Reese in Phoenix
Without doubt, much of the focus will be on two of the rookies who have been making waves since the season started: Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese, both of whom have been busy rewriting the history books and thrilling fans of the game along the way.
Clark received the most votes from fans which makes up 50 per cent of the vote. She received 700,735 votes, ahead of Indiana Fever’s Aliyah Boston with 618,680 votes, Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson with 607,300 votes, New York Liberty’s Breanna Stewart with 424,135 votes and Angel Reese with 381,518.
Rookie of the Month in May and July, Clark is averaging 16.2 points and 6.9 assists per game. Reese meanwhile picked up the Rookie of the Month award in June. She recently set a new league single-season record for consecutive doubles, taking two long-standing WNBA records off Candace Parker. She is currently averaging 13.5 points, 12 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Caitlin’s team mate Aliyah Boston’s stats are right up there too - the Indiana Fever forward has posted 14.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 0.8 steals and she could turn in an MVP performance in tonight’s star-studded contest at the Footprint Center.
How much money will the WNBA All-Star MVP receive?
According to a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) excerpt shared by WNBA reporter Matt Ellentuck on social media, just for taking part in the WNBA All-Star Game, each player will receive $2,575 - much less than the men’s contest.
Whoever ends as MVP will also take home an additional cash prize of $5,150 with the winners of the two skills contests picking up $2,575 (both won by the same player for the first time in history this year - Allisha Gray!), and $1,030 to each participant - again, a much lower figure than those seen in the NBA.
This year’s WNBA All-Star Game will take place on Saturday, July 20, at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, tipping off at 8:30 p.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. PT. The game will be broadcast live on ABC and can be streamed via ESPN’s App.
