How serious is Cameron Brink’s injury? Will she be ready for the Olympics?
The Los Angeles Sparks rookie had to leave the court after getting injured during the game against the Connecticut Sun. Will she miss the Olympics?
It was a bad night for the Los Angeles Sparks. The Californian team lost their 11th game this season and one of their best players, Cameron Brink, had to leave the court after picking up a knee injury.
The WNBA No. 2 overall pick lost her footing driving against Sun forward Brionna Jones with 6:25 remaining in the first quarter. The women’s college basketball defensive player of the year, who grabbed her leg in pain, got on her feet and left the court with her teammates’ help.
The Sparks haven’t been able to find their best form since the new campaign began and Brink’s loss could have a mental impact on Curt Miller’s players.
After the game, Miller said the player would be evaluated to know the extent of her injury:
“Except for the 2019 season, I’ve lost a starter to injury every year I’ve been a head coach in this league. You just have to have the mentality of the next person up and rally around it. So we’re praying and hoping for the best for Cam”.
Will the Los Angeles Sparks player Cameron Brink play in the Olympics?
The Sparks and WNBA fans are awaiting the outcome of Brink’s evaluation, which could determine if the rookie will be able to participate in the Paris Olympic Games.
As for now, Brink, recently selected as a member of Team USA’s 3x3 basketball team in Paris, is doubtful.
Brink, who joined the Sparks in April’s WNBA Draft out of Stanford, is one of the Sparks’ best players. The 22-year-old rising star averaged 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.4 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game through 14 games.
If Brink’s evaluation results are worse than expected, rookie Rickea Jackson could replace the New Jersey native.
