Is Ed Sheeran a Boston Celtics fan? The musician is courtside for Eastern Conference Finals vs. Indiana Pacers

The musician’s presence at the TD Garden isn’t exactly shocking given how many celebrities frequent NBA games, but is he actually a Boston Celtics fan?

Update:

With its rich Irish traditions, Boston is understandably a city that attracts attention from Britain, but it’s still interesting to see the “Shape of You” singer courtside for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals. Of course, he’s not the only famous fan of the men in green.

Is Ed Sheeran a Boston Celtics fan?

With four Grammy awards to his name, Ed Sheeran tends to draw a lot of attention when seen in public, which is precisely why seeing him courtside at the TD Garden in Boston on Thursday night for the Celtics’ game against the Indian Pacers turned heads. Wearing a Celtics jersey no less, Sheeran was seen interacting with fellow fans and the players themselves ahead of Game 2 in the Eastern Conference finals. Whether the English singer-songwriter will bring the team luck remains to be seen, but with a 1-0 lead in the series so far, the Celtics don’t appear to need it.

As for his allegiances, it’s not clear whether Sheeran is a Celtics fan, but he is known to be an ardent fan of football, more specifically English Football League side Ipswich Town F.C. the side that is from Ipswich, Suffolk, England, the county where Sheeran himself was raised. Of course, he does happen to be performing at Boston Calling, New England’s largest music festival, in Boston on Friday which understandably explains why he’s in the area, but it’s telling that he decided to spend some of his free time taking in the game.

Unfortunately, whatever the outcome of tonight’s game is, Sheeran won’t be able to attend Game 3 as he’ll be playing at Bottlerock in California on May 26th, the day before the two teams face each other again. After that, he’ll be heading back across the pond to kick off the European leg of his latest tour which will see him performing in Italy and Germany in June.
