Jaden Ivey points to Anthony Edwards incident - Here’s what happened
Jaden Ivey is continuing to spark controversy after the Chicago Bulls waived him following remarks he made on social media.

Jaden Ivey is continuing to speak out following his release from the Chicago Bulls, and one of his latest comments is drawing attention for bringing another NBA star into the conversation.
In a recent video, Ivey referenced a past incident involving Anthony Edwards, questioning how the league handled that situation compared to his own.
What Anthony Edwards said in 2022
Back in 2022, Anthony Edwards posted a video to social media in which he filmed a group of men and used a derogatory, homophobic slur while reacting to them. The video quickly drew widespread criticism online.
Edwards later deleted the post and issued a public apology, saying his comments were “immature” and that he was sorry for what he said. The NBA fined him $40,000 for the incident but he was not suspended or released, and he continued playing without further discipline beyond the fine.
What Jaden Ivey said and what happened next
Ivey’s situation unfolded differently. The 24-year-old guard posted multiple videos on social media in recent weeks, including one in which he criticized the NBA’s support of Pride Month, calling it a celebration of what he described as “unrighteousness.”

The videos quickly went viral and sparked backlash. Shortly after, the Bulls waived Ivey, citing “conduct detrimental to the team”.
Ivey questions the difference
In his latest comments, Ivey directly compared the two situations.
“He said those things… and they fined him for it,” Ivey said, referring to Edwards. “He didn’t get kicked out the league… But it’s because he’s the best player on their team… It’s all money involved.”
While both incidents involved controversial social media comments, the outcomes differed significantly, a league-issued fine in Edwards’ case versus a team decision to waive Ivey. It’s also worth noting that one was handled directly by the NBA, while the other ultimately came down to a team-level decision by Chicago.
I'm far from agreeing with what Jaden Ivey said, but waiving someone over comments like that, when other NBA players said similar things about this community in the past (Anthony Edwards recent example I recall) is simply nonsense, and dangerous.

Ivey’s comparison has sparked debate among fans about consistency, accountability, and how teams and leagues respond to player conduct.
