James Harden gifts MVP Joel Embiid $100,000 Rolex
Philadelphia 76ers Joel Embiid won the NBA MVP and his teammate James Harden got him an expensive Rolex to congratulate him.
When Joel Embiid won the NBA MVP award, it was a moment he’d been waiting for, for a long time. After years of being a finalist, Embiid finally won the title. Not only was he emotional at the announcement, but his teammates’ reactions to the win were equally touching. When the announcement was made, Embiid immediately began to cry as hie teammates around him chanted “MVP! MVP! MVP!” He couldn’t get it together quickly, and teammate James Harden came running over to embrace him, teasing him by shouting to the rest, “he’s crying!”
Harden’s gift to Embiid
Harden has won the MVP award himself, back in 2018 when he played for the Houston Rockets. He knows what it means to have that honor, and he was the first to be at Embiid’s side after he won it. When Embiid returned from his press conference, Harden had a gift waiting for him - a $100,000 rose-gold, diamond-encrusted Rolex. On the inside of the watch, Embiid’s number, 21, and ‘23 MVP were inscribed.
Embiid’s massive hand was too big for the watch, and Harden told him they’d get him some extra links, but Embiid refused to let the watch go. He held it up for the cameras to capture its glimmer.
“James ... I don’t even know where to start,” Embiid said. “Since he’s been here, I think ... he won’t tell me this, but I think he kind of made his goal for me to be the MVP. He’s given up a lot.”
