Jerry Buss’s LA Lakers ‘showtime’ immortalised in new documentary

Hulu and Disney has released details for an upcoming 10-part docu-series called “Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers” which captures the rise one of the most iconic franchises in professional sports.

“Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers” is the new Huly/Disney docu-series which captures the remarkable rise and unprecedented success of one of the most dominant and iconic franchises in professional sports.

Featuring exclusive access to the Buss Family with revealing interviews with players, coaches, and front office execs, this 10-part documentary series chronicles this extraordinary story from the inside – told only by the people who lived it. Over the last 40 years, the team has secured 11 titles and been home to some of the greats in the history of the NBA.

The story takes the team from take-off following the mogul’s purchase, the rise in ticket prices, the introduction of cheerleaders and live music, to the success of a sports empire with some of the best players now valued at more than five billion dollars. The road includes internal squabbles, Magic Johnson’s illness and sibling rivalry for power.

“The Lakers have the personality of Los Angeles,” notes Jerry Buss in an archive clip from the newly released trailer. “Business got in the way of basketball,” laments Shaquille O’Neal emphatically. Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Phil Jackson and other big names in the franchise are featured in the story which is produced by Jeanie Buss, CEO and majority owner of the Lakers.
