Jimmy Butler’s contract details: How much money does he make and how many years left?
Jimmy Butler is one of the highest-earning athletes and he’s worth the cost, but how much is that exactly and how much longer can the Heat count on him?
The Miami Heat currently lead the Eastern Conference semifinals series against the New York Knicks 3-2 and tonight, they’ll have a chance to close out the series with a win in Game 6. Much of their success thus far is thanks to superstar Jimmy Butler, one of the highest-earning players in the NBA.
Nicknamed “Playoff Jimmy”, Butler is worth his expensive price tag on any given day, but especially in the post season, where he has become famous for being particularly clutch. Over the nine playoff games this season, he’s averaged 31.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.6 assists. Let’s take a closer look at his contract and how much longer the Heat will be able to count on their star performer.
Jimmy Butler’s contract details
Butler first signed with the Miami Heat in 2019 on a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers. In 2021, he signed a four-year contract extension worth $184 million. In that contract, he exercised his player option for the current 2022-23 season and is now on a three-year deal worth $146,396,031 guaranteed. That’s an average salary of $48,798,677. For the 2023-24 season, he’ll earn $37 million, and the extension gives him the player option for the 2025-25 season, when he would earn $52 million.
Here is a breakdown of the contract:
Butler nearly helped the Heat to the Finals in 2022, when they fell by just a three-pointer to the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals. This year, they barely made it into the post season via the Play-in tournament, but then went on to upset the No. 1 team in the Eastern Conference, the Milwaukee Bucks, and are now just a game away from advancing to the Conference Finals yet again. They have Butler’s clutch plays to thank for all of that. If the Heat win, they’ll advance to the Conference Finals. If they lose, they’ll have to win another game after in order to advance.
Butler is currently the 26th highest-paid athlete in the world and the 11th highest-paid NBA player. If he keeps up this kind of play, he will just continue to rake it in, and in 2026, after jumping from team to team at the beginning of his NBA career, he could very well stay with the Heat until his retirement now that he’s gotten comfortable there.
