Kevin Durant: from bad to worse as Rockets face elimination vs Lakers in Game 5
The Rockets have revealed star man Durant won’t be available for Game 5, which could seal their exit from the NBA playoffs.
One win stands between the Los Angeles Lakers and the next stage of the NBA playoffs. What initially looked like a potential early collapse for the Lakers has instead turned into a story of resilience, pride, maturity, and maybe just a bit of luck.
That combination has fueled the franchise’s effort to stay alive in the postseason. The formula appears to be working for head coach JJ Redick, especially with the Houston Rockets struggling to find consistent form on the other side.
Durant ruled out for Game 5
After already missing Games 1, 3, and 4, all signs now point to Kevin Durant sitting out Game 5 as well. According to ESPN, the Houston star forward will not be available when the Rockets face the Lakers in a must-win matchup.
Durant has been dealing with knee and ankle injuries, and he is not at full strength heading into the postseason stretch. What makes this situation even more striking is that he was largely healthy throughout the regular season, making this sudden setback all the more unexpected.
Still, it is not entirely surprising given his injury history, which has interrupted multiple stretches of his career at key moments.
Rockets facing elimination without their leader
The Lakers currently lead the series 3-1 and are just one win away from sending the Rockets home.
Even when Durant was on the floor, he did not significantly shift the balance in Houston’s favor, as the Lakers were still able to secure wins. But his absence now feels like a blow the Rockets may not have the depth to absorb.
Without their best player available for the biggest games, Houston’s title hopes are slipping further away with each passing minute, while Los Angeles closes in on advancement.
