The Golden State Warriors are still fine-tuning their roster for the 2024-25 NBA season. On Wednesday, Kevin Knox, drafted with the ninth overall pick in 2018, signed a one-year contract with the team led by Stephen Curry, The Athletic reports.

Knox signs as a free agent. Details of his contract have yet to emerge but his previous contracts - both one-year deals, with the Pistons and the Trail Blazers, were worth just over $2 million.

Widely-traveled in the NBA

The Kentucky alumnus participated in the Summer League with the Warriors and scored 31 points in the semifinal against the Miami Heat. Knox was one of three Golden State players who averaged double-digit points (17.5) and more than eight rebounds (8.5) per game during the summer league; the other two were Brandin Podziemski (18.5 and 9.5) and Trayce Jackson-Davis (13.5 and 8.5).

Knox is a six-year NBA veteran despite being just 25 years old. After being drafted by the New York Knicks in 2018, he had stints with the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons and Portland Trail Blazers before returning to Detroit for last season. For his career, the Phoenix, Arizona native has averaged 7.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game after playing in 306 games.

Kevin Knox will look to be part of the Warriors' forward rotation

The Warriors’ current starting five is Curry, Podziemski, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga and Draymond Green. The backup forwards who are Knox’s direct competition to make the roster when the regular season begins are Kyle Anderson and Moses Moody.

However, Gary Payton II and De’Anthony Melton could take minutes away from him when Golden State decides to play small ball.

The Warriors open the 2024 regular season as guests of Knox’s former team in Portland on 23 October, returning to Chase Center four days later for the first home game of the new campaign, against the Los Angeles Clippers.
