Kyle Anderson joins Warriors via sign-and-trade
Golden State will send money and a trade of second-round picks to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the American-Chinese basketball point guard.
The Golden State Warriors are rebuilding their roster after Klay Thompson’s departure to the Dallas Mavericks. The first step was finding a tall forward to defend multiple positions. According to the report by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Californian team agreed to a sign-and-trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves to acquire Kyle Anderson. The Warriors used the trade exception created by sending Thompson to the Mavericks to make the trade possible.
The forward, who graduated from UCLA in 2014, will sign a three-year, $27 million contract whose final year is not guaranteed. To confirm his signature, the Warriors sent money and an exchange for a year’s second-round draft pick to be specified.
The 11-year veteran spent the last two seasons with the Timberwolves after starting his NBA career with the San Antonio Spurs. After completing his rookie contract, he played four years for the Memphis Grizzlies. During his last season in Minnesota, the forward recorded averages of 6.4 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in just 22.6 minutes per game after seeing action in 79 regular-season games.

How does Kyle Anderson fit in with the Warriors?
The Warriors’ starting five of the future has been defined since Steve Kerr sent Thompson to the bench in February of this year. Curry and Brandin Podziemski at guard, Andrew Wiggins (whose future is uncertain) and Jonathan Kuminga at small forward, with Draymond Green at center.
For this reason, Anderson will take the first minutes, giving rest to the forward starters, like Gui Santos and Lindy Waters III.
