Kyrie Irving joined the Brooklyn Nets during the free agency period of 2019, and signed a four-year contract for $136,490,600 guaranteed. In 2022, and through 2023, Irving will continue to earn a base salary of $36,503,300, while carrying a cap hit of $36,934,550 and a dead cap value of $36,503,300.

His contract has $4.3 million in incentives, a player option for the 2022-23 NBA season, and a 15% trade kicker.

Irving’s years left with Brooklyn

The 30-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the Nets, having exercised his $37 million player-option this past June. Irving becomes an unrestricted free agent next season.

After a boisterous start to the 2021-22 season, Irving was not able to play in home games for the Nets due to his vaccination status, which led to drama within the team; James Harden ended up swiftly leaving for Philadelphia, and Kevin Durant asked out of Brooklyn.

Irving’s future unknown

Now, the Nets suspended Irving for another controversial off-court reason, making the forward’s future uncertain once again.

After sharing a link to an antisemitic film on social media, the Nets organization punished the basketball star by suspending him without pay, and giving him a list of six tasks to complete to even be in contention for a return.

NBA executives fear this could be the end for the basketball star, as it seems that both the Nets and Irving himself have no more options left on the table.
