Lakers and Mavericks in for a dramatic showdown later this month
The Mavericks made one of the most head-scratching moves in NBA history with the Luka Doncic trade. Here’s when they’ll see him again on the other side.

The Dallas Mavericks shocked the NBA world late Saturday night when they traded superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The trade apparently blindsided everyone involved, including Doncic himself. There were no rumors or talk of this happening, and when it did, much of the world thought it had to be a huge prank.
But alas, it’s real. Doncic is heading to Los Angeles to play with LeBron James (who also had no idea of the trade). The Mavs will also send Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris. In return, they get Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round draft pick. Here are the details:
Yes, this is real. Sources tell ESPN: Full trade:

- Lakers: Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris
- Mavericks: Anthony Davis, Max Christie, 2029 LAL 1st
- Jazz: Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2025 Clippers 2nd, 2025 Mavericks 2nd https://t.co/bltojdTaQj
You know it’s shocking when it has to be prefaced with “Yes, this is real”.
When is the next time the Lakers and Mavericks play each other?
Obviously, this sets up their next encounter between the Lakers and Mavericks to be a dramatic one, when Doncic will face his former team for the first time since the trade.
The Lakers and Mavs have two more games against each other this season. The first is this month, on Tuesday, February 25 in Los Angeles, and the second on Wednesday, April 9 in Dallas.

Before their next game in three weeks, the Mavericks will have played a total of nine games. Davis will likely not play for the Mavs until the third, when they face the Boston Celtics on Thursday, February 6, as he’s still recovering from an abdominal injury.
As for Doncic, he’s also recovering from an injury, but reports say he could return before the All-Star break, maybe as soon as February 8 against the Indiana Pacers. Both Davis and Doncic should be good to go for the Lakers-Mavs showdown on the 25th though, and it will be worth the watch.
