The Los Angeles Lakers are off till Friday when they host the Detroit Pistons, following Sunday’s win over the Brooklyn Nets.

The in-season week-long break seems odd for L.A., but it is certainly buying LeBron James and the Lakers some time in the wake of the trio of injuries.

LeBron uncertain; Schröder, Bryant back

James has been out for two games over the weekend due to an abductor injury, and is day-to-day, while “both Dennis Schröder and Thomas Bryant have progressed well from their respective thumb surgeries, and are set to be re-evaluated on Thursday, Nov. 17,” as per Mike Trudell.

With James’ injury status still uncertain, the Lakers’ rotation has been left thin, but Schröder and Bryant are expected to play Friday, if their evaluation goes well.

Shams Carania expects LeBron will be back Sunday against the Spurs, if not Friday.

Nunn, Bryant and Schröder to the G League

On Tuesday, the Lakers announced that they had assigned Kendrick Nunn, Bryant and Schröder to the South Bay Lakers in the G League for practice and a scrimmage. They also announced that all three players will return to the team later on in the day.

Nunn, who has played in 11 games this season, is still working his way back from a bone bruise in his knee that had him sidelined the whole 2021-22 season.

Schröder and Bryant, meanwhile, each had off-season thumb surgery and have yet to make their debuts this season.

Los Angeles is hoping for a change on the offensive-end of the floor and Bryant and Schröder could solve some key problems in LeBron’s absence, even if they will not entirely save the Lakers.
