Lakers reveal LeBron James retirement desire

LeBron James will play at least one more season with the Los Angeles Lakers, but he has repeatedly left open the possibility of retirement.

Lakers GM addresses LeBron James’ future

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka recently spoke to the media and addressed James’ immediate future, including the hope that the 40-year-old superstar finishes his career in a Lakers uniform.

“We would love if LeBron’s story would be to retire as a Laker,” Pelinka said.

James has one year remaining on his contract after exercising his option ahead of what will be his 23rd NBA season. Last season, he averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds over 70 games.

LeBron weighing up championship opportunities

In June, LeBron’s agent, Rich Paul, noted that the four-time NBA champion would consider joining another team if it offered a better chance to compete for another title, following the Lakers’ first-round playoff exit.

Pelinka emphasized that the team’s offseason moves were strategically designed around James and Luka Doncic. “This summer, we were very intentional with the pieces we brought in for Luka and LeBron. Once LeBron committed, we made sure he had the right pieces to build a truly competitive and strong team, and we built from there,” Pelinka said.

Key additions to the Lakers roster

Among the Lakers’ acquisitions in the past offseason were center Deandre Ayton, forward Jake LaRavia, and guard Marcus Smart, all aimed at bolstering the team’s chances in the coming season.
