Western Conference Standings
Taking a look at the early season standings in the Western Conference we see one thing is very clear. The defending champions are back to being a powerhouse, starting the year with a perfect 5-0 record. It’s a little too early in the season to start talking about playoff position, but the Lakers and Wolves would fall in Play-In position with their 7th and 8th place positions. Above them sit the Spurs who are looking terrific, the Warriors, Nuggets, Jazz and Clippers. The Rockets are supposed to be a team on the rise, but they have started the season 1-2.
NBA Cup is set
The NBA came out with first look at this year’s Emirates Cup. The 30 teams around the league have been put in six groups consisting of five teams a piece. The tournament begins on October 31st with some heavy hitting rivalries around the groups. The Lakers and Mavs will meet in Western Conference’s Group B while the Nuggets and Warriors will see each other in Group C and the Heat and Knicks will clash in Group C of the Eastern Conference.
Edwards out with a bad hammy
The Wolves have fewer injuries coming into tonight, but the one player that will no doubt have to miss this game is the one player they need on the floor each and every night. Antony Edwards suffered a hamstring injury against the Pacers last week, and he is set to miss at least two weeks according to the sources in Minnesota. That means it’s going to be up to the rest to the team to carry the load for the next few games.
Lakers injury problems
The Lakers have already been struck with an injury bug. LeBron James has yet to play a game this season, and will most likely not play until the middle of next month according to team doctors. His sciatica has been bothering him since the preseason and now the Lakers will have to try and keep their heads above water without him and Luka Doncic who was ruled out of the Kings game last week, and is set to miss tonight’s game as well. He has what’s being called a leg and finger injuries but they aren’t considered to be serious. Aside from Luka and LeBron, the Lakers will be without Gabe Vincent and Maxi Kleber.
T’Wolves star watch
Without Anthony Edwards, the brunt of the burden on the offensive end is going to fall on Julius Randle. The former Knick is averaging 25 ppg, 6.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists. It’s his second season with the Wolves and he knows that if this team is going to take it to the next level, he’s going to have to be a big part of the puzzle. It’s never ideal to be without your star player, but Randle could use this time to establish himself as that copilot that will drive this team to a deep playoff run.
Lakers star watch
With LeBron and Luka sidelined with injury, it’s going to come down to one man to carry the load for LA. Last year, Austin Reeves showed he can put on a show even when two of the greatest players in the league aren’t on the floor. This year he has been thrust into that situation again, and what has he done? He’s scored a career high 51 two games ago against the Sacramento Kings and last game he put up 41 to help keep the Lakers in the game until late. This is his time to shine, but the Wolves know that too. Will they be able to slow down one of the hottest players in the game?
Timberwolves last game
Minnesota hosted Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets on Monday night and it was Jamal Murray who stole the show in the first full game that the T’Wolves had to play without Anthony Edwards. Jayden McDaniels led the Wolves with 25 points, and the home team led at the half but Murray caught fire in the 3rd quarter, scoring 23 of his 43 points in the 3rd and Joker registered a triple double as the Nuggets held off the Wolves in the 127-114 win.
Lakers last game
The Lakers hosted the Portland Trail Blazers from the Crypto.com Arena without Luka Doncic or LeBron James and it was once again up to Austin Reeves to carry the load. He kept the Lakers in the game for the first couple quarters but eventually the Blazers pulled away as Denny Avdija led the way for Portland with 25 points. Portland’s defense forced LA into 25 turnovers and held the Lakers to 25% from three point range as the Lakers got handed their second loss of the season.
We are live from Target Center
Hello everyone and welcome to Minnesota where the Timberwolves are back home ready to take on the Los Angeles Lakers, but early season injuries are already taking their toll on both of these teams. Luka Doncic and LeBron James are out for LA while Anthony Edwards will be out for the home side. It’s been a slow start to the season for both of these teams who will be looking to turn things around with a win tonight from the Target Center.
Lakers vs. Timberwolves live
It’s a battle of heavyweights in the Western Conference, but tonight’s match might be more about who is out of the game rather than who is playing. It would usually be a star studded match up between two teams lead by one of the biggest names in the league, but tonight the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves will have to make do without their top players. AS English will be with you all night providing live coverage, stats, highlights and analysis of tonight’s game from the Target Center.
