Update:

The Golden State Warriors will be without Stephen Curry for Game 2 against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursdays and his injury status threatens to cast a shadow over the remainder of the series.

Curry picked up an injury during the second quarter of the Warriors’ Game 1 victory over the Timberwolves. On Wednesday he underwent an MRI scan, which found that he had sustained a Grade 1 hamstring strain.

ESPN reports that the injury will keep Curry on the sidelines for at least a week, although the exact extent is not yet clear.

“He’s obviously crushed,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said. “But the guys picked him up and played a great game, and obviously we’re all concerned about Steph but it’s part of the game.”

Confusing the situation is the fact that this is the first muscle strain suffered in Curry’s entire professional career. The team will wait anxiously to see how the 37-year-old responds to the treatment.

Not only will Curry miss Thursday’s Game 2, but also Game 3 (Saturday) and Game 4 (Monday). Beyond that, his status will also be a doubt for Game 5 (May 14), Game 6 (May 18) and Game 7 (May 20).

“I think we all want [number] 30 back, that is for sure,” Jimmy Butler told reporters after Tuesday’s win. “But we want him to do his best for himself, best for our group. Until then, we can hold down the fort. I know we can.”
