Update:

For the 22nd consecutive season, LeBron James is taking part in the NBA All-Star Game this weekend. But while many of the league’s stars will be appearing in front of the press for Saturday’s All-Star Media Day, James has other plans.

On Saturday the league announced that LeBron James will not be taking part in the NBA media event. Instead, he will be available for the media on Sunday at 11:30am PT. The late switch in scheduling for the 41-year-old superstar has led some to question whether James is planning to make a big announcement.

Some on social media have speculated that he could announce his decision to retire at the end of the 2025/26 season, choosing to do so with his own LeBron-focused media event during All-Star weekend. But, for now, that seems unlikely. This is not the first time that James has opted to hold his own press availability during the All-Star weekend and there is nothing to suggest that a retirement announcement is being prepared.

In fact, LeBron James has remained tight-lipped on his plans beyond the current NBA season. The LA Lakers star signed a two-year contract extension last summer, with a player option for the second year. The decision will be entirely in James’ hands and he is not showing any signs that he is contemplating retirement.
